The Managing Director is appointed by the Board of Trustees as the agent who will administer the day to day operations of the Corporation and will work alongside the Artistic Director. Managing Director will have the authority to hire any staff under their direction, provided it is within a pre‐approved budget by the Board. This position shall engage in a leadership function with all organizational Committees, and works with each Committee Chair to ensure their group's optimization. The Managing Director will report to the Executive Committee. In the furtherance of the duties and responsibilities of the office, the Managing Director is authorized to enter into contracts on behalf of the organization for items approved by the Board. 


 Essential Functions: 

  • Oversee the day‐to‐day administrative operations of the Company.

  • Administration of office operations including, but not limited to the following:

    Box office policy

    Staffing and management

    Pricing, purchasing

    Facilities management

    Bookkeeping and accounting, budgeting, payroll, information technology

    Marketing and communications in conjunction with the Artistic Director

  • Oversee communication with donors and patrons

  • Hire, train and supervise all non‐production employees

  • Oversee recruiting, training, coaching, and retention of staff

  • Foster an office culture of teamwork, generous collaboration, clear communication, effective delegation, and mutualsupport

  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the Phoenix Board of Trustees



  • A bachelor’s degree in business, non‐profit administration, or related field

  • Minimum of either 3 years of experience in a non‐profit arts organization of similar size or 5 years of experience as a department head or senior staff of an organization of greater size

  • Significant experience interacting with Boards, Volunteers and Donors.

  • Experience building revenue and philanthropic support

  • Experience in grant writing preferre
