Phoenix Productions designs its courses to nurture the building blocks of musical theatre and challenge the triple theatre performer in all of us. Below is a list of typical class offerings:
Elite Ensemble is performance based and developed specifically for Phoenix’s most advanced young triple threat performers! In this pre-professional level performance class, students will work to perfect showcase songs, putting together full production numbers of Broadway’s hottest hits. Elite Ensemble performers will work towards the goal of not only a final showcase performance for family and friends, but also representing Phoenix as its Elite Ensemble at high profile events throughout the season.
Basic training for youngsters who love to perform but have had no previous training. Explores the basic principles of acting, through dialogue and action. Develops confidence to move on to the big stage.
Students will explore the basics of acting and how to develop relationships, dialogue, and action. Students will gain a simple understanding of scene and character analysis, including objectives, stakes, tactics, and trusting your instincts.
An introduction to characterization for budding young actors, this class takes a first look into character development using the classic storybook archetypes children know and love. A great continuation for Intro to Acting students, or for new youth who are curious about the world of theatre.
With a focus on scene study and character development, students will learn the basics of script analysis and how to interpret characters honestly. A great follow up for those who have taken Fundamentals of Acting, or for the tween wishing to dive head first into acting.
Be spontaneous and explore the fundamentals of short form improvisational comedy! This class will consist of games and exercises similar to those you’ve seen on Whose Line Is It Anyway. Embrace your fearlessness as you think on your feet to create impromptu scenarios and skits in this adult troupe.
This class, with a focus on traditional Musical Theatre tap, will help you discover a new talent or develop your current tap skills. No experience necessary! Come have a good time and get ready for your next tap audition at Phoenix or on Broadway. Levels: Beginner to Intermediate
Looking for a challenge? Take your tap skills to the next level in this course! Whether you’re a hoofer or a showgirl, this class will cover all styles of tap and push you to perfect you sounds and rhythm.
Previous tap experience suggested. Levels: Intermediate to Advanced
The nuts and bolts of singing, from breath support to resonant placement. Learn all the necessities that make up the foundation of proper singing. This group class will provide opportunities to work on the individual voice as a soloist in addition to learning the dynamics of ensemble singing.
What song? What photo? What shoes? This class is designed to better prepare the student for a professional audition experience, from walking into an open call, to cold reading callback material. Learn the do's and don'ts of wardrobe, the tips and tricks for quickly memorizing choreography, the expectations and faux pas of song choices. Arm yourself with the proper knowledge and confidence before your next audition!
With the influence of movies like Pitch Perfect and groups like Pentatonix, interest in a cappella music has exploded. This ensemble will explore how voices work together to create harmonies and full, rich musical structures. While collaborating to produce complete and original pieces using only voices as instruments, students will also enhance their sight reading and ear training skills.
