Phoenix Productions now offers a unique opportunity for early-career professionals ages 18 and up to gain professional, hands-on experience at one of New Jersey's top non-profit theatres.

Internship opportunities are available seasonally and include: Arts Administration, Education, Marketing and PR, Scenic Design, Technical Theatre, and Costuming
(College credit available).

Arts Administration/General Management interns will learn hands-on about the business realm of theater and nonprofit administration. Interns will work on administrative tasks including: accounting, finance, budgeting, non-profit development, grant applications, Phoenix special events, participating in donor and administrative duties.

Patron Services interns work directly with the Box Office staff to assist with the various aspects of Phoenix’s Main Stage subscription season and single-ticket sales. Working in direct conjunction with the Count Basie Theatre Box Office, interns will gain valuable experience in customer service, phone sales, operating Phoenix’s ticketing system, our subscription process, and gain opportunities working the Count Basie staff and volunteers during the runs of our season’s productions.

Education interns will observe and work side by side with Phoenix’s resident theatre artists for classes with our Beauty and the Beast Spring Break Intensive, our summer Camp Phoenix, and year-round children and adult education opportunities in the Rising Star Academy. Interns also assist in monitoring and coordinating the success of day-to-day operations, including rehearsal/class schedules and student performances, and preparing class materials and textual aides. Specific opportunities working on Black Box and Main Stage productions are available for Education Interns interested specifically in Dramaturgy.

Marketing & Public Relations/Social Media interns work directly with the Marketing Team on print/digital marketing and media relations including: marketing campaigns for Phoenix’s subscription and single ticket campaigns, creating press materials, web site editing and maintenance, working directly with greater media newspapers and online publications, scheduling press and reviewers, photo calls, maintaining print/digital press archives, and running Phoenix’s social media accounts. Interns will learn the “ins and outs” of how to successfully market theatres with strategies used at many professional theatres in the country.

Scenic Construction & Design interns work with Phoenix’s Technical Director, production team, and Phoenix Volunteers on building the scenery that is showcased on the Count Basie Stage. Working in Phoenix’s fully-equipped Scene Shop, interns will learn to master the power tool box, work the “ins and outs” of the scene shop, and construct all scenic pieces for our 2017 season. Interns with specific interest in design may have the opportunity to assist our designers in creating designs for opportunities to professionally build their portfolio.

Scenic Painting & Design interns assist the Scenic Charge Artist in the executing the plans and designs for our productions. Responsibilities can include all phases of work (color mixing, painting, detail and brush work, etc)

Costume Construction & Design interns work alongside Phoenix’s resident Costume Shop Director and Production Team Costume Designer in producing quality costumes for our season’s shows. Brush up on your sewing, steaming, and sequin skills and learn from Phoenix’s best!
