Spring Break Musical Theatre Intensive – The Little Mermaid, Jr.

Junior logo - title only

Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr., adapted from Disney’s 2008 Broadway production. In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home – and her fins – behind and live in the world above. But first she’ll have to defy her father King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking.

Work with the same professional production team currently working on Phoenix’s Mainstage production of The Little Mermaid! Phoenix Production’s Rising Star Academy will mount a modestly full-scale production of The Little Mermaid Jr. in one incredibly fun and intensive week of rehearsals!

This unique Spring Break opportunity will take place the week of March 28th through April 1st, Monday through Friday, 9am – 5pm. Rehearsals and performance will be held at the Phoenix Performing Arts Center, located at 59 Chestnut Street in Red Bank. The camp will culminate in a performance of The Little Mermaid, Jr. on Friday, April 1st at 7pm in the Fuller Studio Theatre for family and friends. Three tickets per student will be included in the $340 tuition fee.

Placement auditions are required to participate in this fully costumed workshop production and are open to performers in grades 1 – 12. No prior experience is needed to audition. The Rising Star’s cast is made up of principal and ensemble roles. Actors cast in a principal role will have speaking lines and/or solos. Actors in the ensemble sing and dance as part of a group but do not always have individual lines or solos.

Registration is required prior to attending a placement audition.

Placement auditions will take place at Phoenix Performing Arts Center, 59 Chestnut Street in Red Bank, on the following dates:
Tuesday, March 15 from 4-6pm
Saturday, March 19 from 10am-12pm

Ribbon cutting

After two years of negotiating, testing and endless red tape, Phoenix acquired its new home last October. Then came six months of dust, dirt, and reconstruction as we turned what was once a tobacco warehouse into the Phoenix Performing Arts Center.

So, on May 8th, it was time to celebrate. And celebrate we did, with a ribbon cutting followed by an evening of merriment entertainment, food and drink. It was a tough road, but well worth the trip. Future Phoenix performers, volunteers and patrons will enjoy the fruits of our labors.

Now, we will begin a new chapter in Phoenix’s never-ending saga with a variety of goals to accomplish. In addition to our main stage productions at the Count Basie Theatre, we will begin work on a new black box theatre, for smaller and more intimate plays. We would like to jumpstart two new programs: a Children’s Theatre and a performance group for seniors.

If you would like to contribute to our new home in anyway, your service would be greatly appreciated. There is a wish-list on our website, www.phoenixredbank.com, that is always looking for donations. There are also a few ways for you to get your name etched into the walls for years to come. Check out our website for these opportunities to be explained in greater detail.

A standing ovation for all of the people who, throughout the process, helped us realize our dream. We would like to notably recognize Martin McGamn, ESQ, Geoffrey Brothers of Brothers Commercial Real Estates, Michael Simpson of Some Architects, Shawn Manning of Seeview Remodeling, and Richie Snedirer. We could not have done it without them and we owe them a great debt.
